2017 TOLEDO'S PASSENGER RAIL FORUM
Annually, in the fall, NOPRA, with support from TMACO, sponsors a luncheon meeting. The forum features rail news and information and a keynote presentation.
Our annual Forum was held at The Toledo Club in Toledo, on October 23rd, 2017, welcomed speaker J. Craig Thorpe from Seattle. The title of the presentation was “Painting the Possible .”
His presentation included how pictures illustrate not only the possible but a guidance to actual utilitarian models, and how such pictorial stories can not only be applied to other rail corridors but guide the future of passenger rail.
"Art plays an important role in helping us envision how the future might appear. While many of today’s railroad artists draw upon the past, J. Craig Thorpe looks ahead. He presented at Conversations 2016, which led to the article on p. 10-33 in Railroad Heritage, Summer 2017. Provocative and iconoclastic, Thorpe does not hold back on what he sees as the ills of contemporary American society. Refreshing, however, is his persevering optimism. For Thorpe, there is always hope, and he sees rail art not merely as an aesthetic enterprise, but also as a tool for advancing community good.” --Scott Lothes For further information go to: jcraigthorpe.com/
